How many Sessions will I need?

This varies a great deal from person to person. Generally after deciding to work together you will contract with your therapist to meet for an initial six sessions after which both of you will review your work together and decide how to proceed if it's necessary. In a lot of cases people find that six to ten sessions is sufficent.

What will happen in the first session?

In the first session your counsellor will need to get some basic details from you. Your therapist will then discuss with you confidentiality and answer any questions you may have at this point. You will then discuss your present situation and/or issues. At the end of your first session you will then discuss with your therapist the duration of your therapy and the frequency of the sessions, i.e. once a week for six weeks.

How much does it cost?

This depends greatly on the therapist as each of our therapists has their own individual fee and some offer a sliding scale of fees depending on circumstances. On average it is approximately €50 to €60 per session, however fees can be discussed with your therapist when you are making your first appointment.  We can also provide low cost counselling with one of our fully trained volunteers at €25 per session. All fees are payable at the end of each session.

How long does a session last?

For individuals the session will normally last up to 50 minutes. For Teenagers and Children sessions can run from 30 to 50 minutes and for Couples from 60 to 90 minutes.

Can I just drop in?

Our service is strictly by appointment only. Appointments are available from 9am to 9pm Monday to Friday and from 10am till 2pm on Saturdays.

What happens if I need to cancel or resechedule an appointment?

We ask that you give at least 24 hours notice of a cancellation or if you need to reschedule. This is to allow sufficent time for a therapist to utilize the time slot, if less than 24 hours notice is given there is a cancellation fee of €10 payable at your next session.
