Although Counselling and Psychotherapy are terms that people would interchange regularly they are two distinct types of Therapy.
Counselling would generally look at the present or more immediate issues that are prevelant for the individual or couple, it would normally be more short term running at approximatley six to ten sessions meeting weekly.
Psychotherapy is a way of working with more deep rooted issues that are affecting our present. These issues can be based in how we view ourselves through the eyes of others, or could stem from childhood neglect, mistreatment or abuse, all of which affect how we see ourselves in the present. It is because of this that Psychotherapy can last a much longer period of time and would be reviewed regularly by client and therapist.
"I am not what happened to me.
I am what I choose to become."
