Counselling for individuals and Couples

 Individual Therapy

A Person seeking Individual Counselling may not know what to expect when coming to Counselling for the first time. This lack of awareness can often delay the important first step of contacting a Therapist. The Therapy session is always a unique experience for everyone, for some it maybe struggling with a current issue, for others it maybe more deep rooted and require more intensive self exploration. Individuals may attend Psychotherapy for many reasons such as , grief and loss, trauma, addiction, relationship issues, issues arising from childhood, such as neglect, physical or sexual abuse. Work / life balance, sexual dysfunction, Anger management and managing outcomes from adult diagnosis of ADHD and ASD. So often people will present looking for Anxiety therapy. However, there is no specific therapy for anxiety, rather it is an integrative approach, tailor made by your therapist to, first understand the route of your anxiety and second what triggers it, and finally devising the best approach for you to overcome your anxiety. Another area that dominates is Men's mental health. On average 80% of suicides in Ireland are male, this is a staggering proportion. At Westmeath Counselling we strive to support the men in our community and we have a number of therapists, both male and female, that specialise in Men's mental health.

Couples Therapy

Personal relationships can sometimes hit a stage where third party mediation may be required. Couples counselling can help in dealing with issues such as communication problems, trust issues, respecting the individual, financial difficulties, sexual problems and infidelity.

At Westmeath Counselling Service we can offer a calm, relaxed space where two people, with the assistance of their therapist, can work out the issues which are impeding upon their relationship. Our Couples Counsellors are trained in various therapies including the works of Dr Sue Johnston, Dr John Gottman and in Imago Therapy.
